December 9

For a holiday party in the kindergarten class my son has to take in a small gift for each classmate.  The teacher wants us to spend no more than twenty cents on each gift and suggested stuff like pencils and stickers.  We were at the dollar store last week to buy disposable pans for the cinnamon rolls that I do for neighbors and we saw twelve packs of Christmas erasers.  Three dollars for thirty-six gifts.

Tonight we wrapped them up in blue snowflake paper (blue is my son’s favorite color and we both love the snow).  I cut twenty-seven squares and we rolled the erasers up inside and put a piece of tape on.

12 09 10_4029 I just love to watch this boy when he is concentrating.

I like the idea of this activity : giving is fun! but I’m not really looking forward to twenty seven erasers, pencils and other trinkets that he will bring home next week.  I feel kind of bad about that – I know he’ll be excited – but I dread the things left all over the house.

I think I might the Grinch this year.

Help!

Cute idea, but I agree, I hate crap. But it is a good little lesson to give.

I agree, that's too many things that will not get used. I'm guessing this teacher is not a mom. Or hasn't had young kids for a while now. Find a ziploc baggie to put his stuff in and hopefully he will be underwhelmed by it all when Christmas is over and you can throw it away.
