Several hours after I posted about making cookie dough on Monday, I heard a thumping from the office above the kitchen. Then there was a thundering down the stairs. I was standing in the kitchen unwrapping cubes of butter and here comes Bryan running into the kitchen and opening the fridge.
“Where are they?” he asked.
“Where are what?” I replied, warily.
“I was just reading your blog…it said you were making cookie dough…where is it?”
I told him that I was just starting to make it. And laughed. Because of his reaction, I thought that I would share the recipe. I got the recipe from my mom and it makes the best sugar cookies around.
The BEST rolled Sugar Cookies {or raw dough}
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups softened butter
- 2 cups white sugar
- 4 eggs (or 4 TBSP powdered egg and 1/3 cup + 2 TBSP water)
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 5 cups flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
In a large bowl cream together the butter and the sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour, baking powder and salt. Cover and chill 1-12 hours (it really is best overnight). Roll out and cut cookies. Bake at 375 degrees for 6-8 minutes or until golden brown.
The amount of cookies it makes depends on how big they are but it makes a good sized batch.
Enjoy!

So...everytime I make sugar cookies from scratch, no matter what recipe I try, they taste like biscuits. Will this one ACTUALLY work for me?
Ooh, I can't wait to try this recipe!
Love that recipe I use it often-- So glad you share! Didn't know Bryan was so into cookie dough, glad he didn't fall down that staircase in his hurry!!

Crap. Now I HAVE to have me some cookie dough. My thighs are going to kill you.
Finally, a sugar cookie recipe that does not use shortening! I'll be trying this soon! Baking cookies is one of our favorite things to do around here.
I love that he found out about it while reading your blog. Too funny!!
