Random Thoughts

From Monday:

Sometimes I can’t believe how much I still miss home.  I miss being a 15 minute drive from my parents.  We could drop in anytime for a visit.  We could get together for dinner.  We could play games together.  We could watch sporting events together.

My youngest child is turning into a little artist.  He draws the whole day long.  He loves that Doodle Pro.  He draws people (“with bodies!” he proclaims) and today is drawing roads.  Today he wants to feel better so he is drawing me roads, erasing them and then drawing some more roads.  Maybe he is hinting that I should pack up the car and go on a road trip.  But, I know he’s not.  He also draws his name.  Always backwards, in perfect letters.  I’m a proud mama.

A lot of times, I worry that someone will stop by unannounced and see the state my house is normally in.  The last couple of weeks that has changed though.  I have spent more time on things related to the house so my house has been presentable. I didn’t do anything yesterday though and the house this morning looked like a tornado hit.  And the thing I don’t understand: we were gone to church for three hours yesterday and then were home for 45 minutes before heading to a Super Bowl party.  How did this happen????? Argh!

From Today:

I taught preschool today.  And it went really well.  The theme was communication & relationships.  When I first read that, I thought, how the heck do I teach this to 3 & 4 year olds?  We read lots of books about family, and one about two kids that say “I’m Sorry”; then we made family trees, colored cards to communicate with our friends, watched part of the Letter Factory DVD (letters N-Q this month), and took a “nature walk” to the bus stop.  When I was done, I was exhausted.

I’m hosting a Tupperware Party for a friend tomorrow night. I’m worried no one will come and it will be a waste of her time.

Our family reunion to Canada this summer got cancelled. I’m so sad about it.  We really can’t afford a trip to Canada this summer since we had to buy a new dishwasher, put half a new roof on and have two sisters getting married; but I was really looking forward to the Calgary Stampede.  I really hope it will happen next year instead.

And just because:

I took this picture at the Oregon coast last summer. Near Tillamook.  Doesn’t a sunny day at the beach sound heavenly right now?

I totally understand your homesickness. Even though I would not want to move back to VA (where we are originally from) I do sometimes feel homescik for the special times we had there and for being close to family. That is a grogeous picture!

Aspen has learned to write her name out of the blue lately and I am delighted at how well she does it. She loves to draw too.

I've spent less time on the computer and my house is still a wreck. What's up with that? If I lived closer I would totally come to your tupperware party. I have to drive to piano tomorrow though so a trip to Troutdale just won't work.

I love your random thoughts.

It never ceases to amaze me what a weekend can do to a house. Or one day of not doing laundry.

I'm pretty sure your house must just look like the rest of ours. One of my good friends once told me she thinks of her home not as a museum for guests, but a laboratory for her children to learn. It helps me have a bit of perspective when combatting the constant clutter and laundry. Not that those things don't need to be addressed -- they do -- but it's nice to know it's not the ONLY thing we have to consider.

I missed home almost every single day we lived out east.

Home IS the Calgary Stampede for me. I make a point to plan my summer trip home around it every year. Here's for hoping you'll make it!

We moved here 11 years ago and I'm still sad that my folks aren't just minutes away from me. At least they haul the RV up here every couple of years and we get them for a few months.

As for 365, Becky Higgins has all the artwork available as a free download on her blog. You can print it out and tuck everything into 12 X 12 pocket sheet protectors. I don't know if that would help you or not. The actual kit is way cool compared to that though. (I missed out on the kit)
