Back To School!

Today my kids went back to school.  Hooray!  Sometimes I feel guilty for being excited about it.  I hear other mom's talk about how they cry, and they don't look forward to it.  And, I think that I should feel that way too.  But, honestly, I don't.  I love seeing them learn and grow, and I value the time that I have with my child(ren) left at home.  I also like the little bit of time that I get with them gone for a few hours.  That doesn't mean that I don't miss them while they are gone.  I do. I am excited when they come home and I love to hear about their days.

Darling Daughter

My daughter only had to go to school for a little over an hour today.  She got to spend some time in her class room with her teacher and some of her classmates (and some kids from the PM class too), while I sat in the lunchroom with the other parents and filled out paperwork.

She was not happy about it.  She wanted to ride the bus to school.  She wanted to go with out me.  She really wants to eat lunch at school like her big brother.  I've tried telling her that she is in half-day, so she will be eating lunch at home.  I guess she'll figure it out once she has eaten at home a few times.

I love how independent she is, even though sometimes I feel left out.  I'm pleased that she is confident and self-assured enough to get on the bus and ride to school with out me.

Handsome Oldest

My Oldest started 2nd grade.  His teacher is young and cute and excited.  He isn't in a class with friends from last year or any kids from church, but that just means that he gets to make new friends.  And he gets to see his friends from church and last year at recess and lunch time.

I walked with him to class today, and tomorrow he will get on the bus with his sister and they will be on their way. He is a shy kid, in general, but he loves school.

****

My Youngest and I will be left alone together for a couple of hours each day.  Here's a conversation from a couple of days ago:

Me: What are we going to do with just me and you?

Him: Go to Target!

So, tomorrow, in celebration we are going to Target.  I don't need anything, but the chance to browse is appealing.  And, maybe we'll get an Icee.  Nothing like a sugar jolt at 7:45 in the AM. Right?

I love this recap! So positive and loving. I love the independent side of kids growing up too, like to see them become little capable people.

My son has been in school for a week and is thinking he has Target withdrawl from his lazy and indulged summer. He wants to know if we can go to Target to celebrate the end of the school week! Good old Target.

I have a few years before I start with all of this back to school stuff, but reading it makes me want to go back to school. I have such fun memories of the first day of school each year. I sure hope I can pass the love of school to my kids. Yours seem to be excited!

This post brought back so many memories of when my older two girls went to school. I used to love the first day too because, while I did miss them, it was so nice to have the whole house to myself.

My oldest was like your daughter, coudln't wait to get on the bus and go all by herself. DD#2 was just the opposite and cried all the way through the first week of kindergarten.

Can I come along to Target and get an icee too??

Oh man...DON'T feel guilty...celebrate! And when youngest goes off to school, grab a girlfriend and go to breakfast or something. Or I guess you could keep the Target tradition! :)

They look so cute and grown up! Crazy how time goes by.
On Tuesday when Kaedie started PreK...I didn't cry. I know she is safe, having fun, and learning. I love the time with just my little guy and me and I can't wait for Big Kid School next year!!

P.S. Browsing Target is one of our favorite pass times! I love how your little guy loves it...I hope Landon will as he grows, he seems to now! :)
