This was my first real week of Project Summer. I slacked off the end of last week, and we didn't really jump into our summer schedule until Monday. And it worked! So well. But now I am totally exhausted. But since it worked, I will keep plugging along.
My kids are typically early risers so we are up, dressed and done with breakfast (and playing) by 9:00 which is when we start chores. Much to my delight, there was no whining when it was chore time. First they make their beds, brush their teeth, put pj's away and then they start their real chore of the day. Someone sets and clears the table each night and they have 1-2 other things to do each morning. I really think they enjoyed it too.
At 10:00 we started in on a "daily activity." On Monday, we run errands. Tuesday, we played with friends. Wednesday, we went to the free summer movies. Thursday, we went to the library. Friday, we went to playgroup.
This was followed by lunch at noon. Quiet time (and a nap for youngest) at 12:30. Snacks at 2:30ish, and playing outside and soaking in the sun until dinner time at 5:30. Which was usually followed by more outdoor time until bathes, 10 minute clean-up (where we set the timer and see what we can get done) and reading for 20 minutes.
And bedtime at 7:30 for Youngest and my Daughter. Oldest gets to stay up until 8:00 these days.
My house hasn't been cleaner in ages. I haven't been more tired in ages. But it works. Oh, and my plan about checking the email/reader only 2x a day? Yeah. Right. But, I have only checked my email in the AM, saving blogs and other emails for nap time and bedtime. And it has made my life more pleasant.
So, what is your summer schedule? Is it working?

Way to go Amanda! Your kids will have such great memories of this summer. And I bet the tiredness will wear off once you get used to your routine.
Setting the breakfast table the night before is such a good idea. I'm always trying to think of something the littlest can do to feel helpful without actually being under foot.
Your schedule is fantastic. Way to go for making it work for you. Our schedule has been get up around 8 a.m. and have breakfast, brush teeth and get chores done. Then they have to do 30 minutes of either math or reading/writing. I check their work and then they can do what they want until I am done working which is (on good days) around noon. Then we take off to do some kind of activity for a few hours in the afternoon.
What's a schedule? You put me to shame. Really, my only schedule is to be a total scatterbrain at various times of the day. I'm very good at fulfilling that schedule and sometimes I even exceed it...bleh. I need to take a page or 12 from your book but I don't know if I can fit it in...:)
My kids just got out of school on Wed. the 18th, so we've only had 2 days of summer. Already we've missed bedtime and reading. I need to follow your example and get a real schedule.
What great ideas Amanda! I like the idea of having Ally complete a few things each day at a certain time. We start 'summer' on the 26th and just can't wait! Most of our summers are spent at the cabin but, the time we spend at home will be productive too I hope. Have a great one. I just love this time of year.
Our days have been crazy and overbooked. When the weather is nice we drop the afternoon plans and go wear ourselves out at the pool. I LOVE summer.
