Friday night our school was having a movie night fundraiser. They were going to show Monsters, Inc. We decided though, that since we had spent 10 of the last 12 days with sick kids that it would be best to stay home, and get kids in bed at the normal time. Also, Bryan was starting to feel pretty crummy.
So, after scouts, Bryan and my oldest son brought home pizza and we watched a movie that my kids had never seen before:
It was fun. I think they enjoyed it. They were all intrigued by the movie and not much beats eating dinner on blanket that has been spread out in the TV room.
Saturday Bryan had to work. He left early, and I was sitting at the table eating muffins when my sister called to find out what shape cookies I was bringing to her house for a party that afternoon. It was then that I remembered that I had offered to bring 70 baked sugar cookies. I got up and spent the rest of the morning baking cut out sugar cookies, getting the kids to clean their rooms, and taking the braids out of my daughters hair {I swear it takes longer to get the braids out than in.}
Saturday was also my youngest son’s last soccer game. I have been coaching so I was looking forward to the break. We have six kids on our team, and I knew one wasn’t going to be there. We had five come. Of the five, four refused to play. If they would come on the field they would randomly walk off the field or they would stand there with no idea where the ball was. I imagine as a parent on the sidelines it was quite comical, but it was very frustrating for me. I wish I could say mine was the one that played. No. He was the one that would only come on the field when I told him he wouldn’t get a snack if didn’t start playing.
Straight from the soccer game we went to the Halloween party at my sister’s house. The kids decorated cookies, ate pizza, played an eyeball relay game and ran around. It was a chaotic two hours but the kids all had a great time.
When we got home, Bryan was home and still feeling crummy. In fact, now he was worse than crummy.
Sunday was pretty normal. We tried to sleep in. We refereed fights. We argued kids into the shower, and church clothes. We tried to bribe them to be good with popcorn before church. We sat through church hoping to actually hear a couple minutes of the talks. After church, we fed everyone Top Ramen noodles. We over saw homework, playing, fighting, coloring and cleaned up the house a little. And when I saw “we”, I mean “I” because Bryan is full-blown sick. In bed or on the couch all day. Being jumped on by a 4-year-old who can’t figure out why Dad isn’t playing with him at all.
And now, kids are in bed. Tomorrow starts a new week. I feel stress eating away at my sanity. I have a full week ahead of me. But for now, I plan on watching some HGTV and calling it a day.
How about you?
