Book Meme

I lifted this off Lajendi.

Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack? Most days, I read while I eat lunch.  Other than that, I don’t snack when I eat.  Which means that I should turn the TV off more and read instead.

Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you? Writing in books doesn’t horrify me, but I don’t write in my books as I read them.  I might stick a scrap paper if there is something that I really want to remember.

How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open? I use a bookmark.  Nothing fancy, just a scrap paper or a tissue most of the time.

Fiction, Non-fiction, or both? More fiction.  I don’t mind the occasional non-fiction.  I read to escape mostly, so I want happy ending type books over books that make me think.

Hard copy or audio books? Hard copy.  We listen to kids books on CD when we go on a trip but that’s it.

Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point? I usually read to the end of the chapter.  I like books with short chapters because then I feel like I accomplish more.

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away? No.  Never.  I can usually figure out what the word means by how it’s being used or I ask Bryan what it means.  If neither of us know, then I skip it.

What are you currently reading? Last of the Breed by Louis L’Amour for book club, and The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith.  I don’t normally read two books at once – it’s too confusing, but I am right now.

Last book you bought? A parenting book.  I bought it in July.  Haven’t read it yet.  Maybe it’ll be next!

Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can you read more than one at a time? Normally, I’m a one book at a time person.  It’s easier that way.

Do you have a favorite time of day and/or place to read? I read in bed every night.  I love to lay in the sun on a blanket in the grass to read too.  And I love reading while I eat lunch too.  It’s a nice break in the day.

Do you prefer series books or stand alone books? I prefer stand alone books because I hate waiting for the next book to come out.

Is there a specific book or author that you find yourself recommending over and over? Good Night, Mr. Tom by Michelle Magorian.  My all time favorite book.  If you haven’t read it, do me a favor and read it.  With tissues.

How do you organize your books? (By genre, title, author’s last name, etc.?) Organize?  Ha, ha.  They are on the shelf.  By size, I guess.  Although in my nightstand is a stack of books waiting to be read.

How about you?

Some random thoughts in no particular order.

I love series books, but I like to start reading them after the series is complete so I don't have to wait. I love discovering series when they're already done!

I don't eat while I read. It makes it too hard to hold the book and turn the pages.

I'm normally a one book at a time person. Usually, if I don't like a book well enough to finish it in a few sittings, I won't ever finish it. But I have occasionally set aside a book to read other things and then picked it up later. I set aside Brisingr several months ago, and still haven't picked it back up, though.

And I use my custom made men of Jane Austen bookmark. I like to catch a glimpse of the eye candy now and then. Hmmm, does that count as "snacking" while I read?
