Last week my aunt from Canada was in town visiting with my cousin so we took our kids to the zoo. We met around lunch time, and ate our packed lunch before exploring and seeing the animals. We always have to see the elephants because they are my favorite. We saw the giraffes because they were along the way (and they are my kid's grandmother's favorite so we think of her everytime we see them!
We also saw the zebras, and for once we saw something other than their backsides. They were moving about and eating grass this time:
My nephew insisted on seeing the bats - yuck!, and my Oldest wanted to see the Rhinos. The last couple of times that we have to the zoo the rhinos haven't been out, so we were excited that they were this time.
My Youngest likes to see the sea lions swim around but on this day they were being lazy and sleeping. Very disappointing. My daughter usually insists on seeing the gorillas but she didn't this time. We did see some monkeys. She was just excited to have my cousin's daughter there to hold hands with.
While we were there we rode the Zoo train. The zoo train here takes you out of the zoo to Washington Park where you can get off and go the Rose Garden, the Japanese Gardens or the playgrounds. On this day, the afternoon was running out so we staying on the train and just rode the loop. It takes about 35 minutes. The kids were thrilled, all hanging their heads out over the edge to watch.
We also saw these beautiful flowers on a tree along the way. It is a beauty.
When we moved here we bought an annual pass to the zoo. It runs out at the end of September, and we have used it a lot. Very well worth it. We have decided not to renew the membership and part of me is sad about that. If we use it too often the kids start to complain about being dragged around again, but I truly enjoy it. And, it has been fun to do when we have had family and friends in town visiting.
How is the zoo where you are? Are you a member to anything similar to this? Children's Museums? Zoo? Science Museums? Aquariums?

We have a zoo pass, but we've only used it once so far. Luckily it lasts an entire year, so we have it until next July!
I love your photos! They are so good, Amanda.
Wow, how fun that the zoo has a train, Max would LOVE that!
I'm not a member of anything right now, unfortunately, but hopefully next year we will be. A couple of friends have zoo memberships right now, so we always go on their ticket.
Next summer I want a season pass to the beaches, maybe a zoo membership and we're going to go and check out all the aquariums that are around! Oh, and we really need to check out the Boston children's museum too. So there you go! :)
I love the new look of your blog, so cute! And I love the flower picture. And I did buy a pass to the SLC Children's Museum, but I probably wouldn't do it again.
We took a spur of the moment trip to the children's museum. If I were a better planner - maybe we could have gone together!
We have a membership to the zoo...we have almost got our moneys worth and it is still good until next June. We are probably going again on Saturday. I would love to have memberships to all sorts of places. I want to go to the Discovery Museum at the Gateway and I know my oldest would love the Dinosaur museum at Thanksgiving Point. If there was a beach around here that would be a good option. Maybe next year we will have to do the swimming pool...I do have two little fish.
By the way, I love the look of your blog. They are great colors!
We've been checking into local museums and such around here for places to go. We have the Charlotte History Museum near us which is really neat. We also have a terrific children's library known as the ImagineOn downtown. I love zoos but we're not near one here.
We have such a tiny zoo here that rarely changes, that it is not worth buying an annual pass. But we do go at least once a year for "Boo at the Zoo" where they have all these stations set up inside the zoo for the kids to go Trick-or-Treating to, which is always fun.
We do go at least once a year to the zoo Cheryl was talking about in her comment. It is always worth the drive.
Wish we had a nice zoo! *pout*
