So.

DSC_0464

We had our first experience with the Pinewood Derby this weekend.  It was fun.  My husband and oldest son worked hard on the car and it did okay in the races.  He painted it black and red in honor of the Portland Trailblazers and put the number 25 on it, in honor of (former) Trailblazer Travis Outlaw.  Outlaw is my oldest’s favorite basketball player, but he was recently traded to the LA Clippers.

The hyacinths in my front yard are about to bloom.  Within the next day or two.  I’m so excited.

I volunteered to help with the school’s book fair.  I am the “co-chair”.  We set up Friday and I’m a little overwhelmed.  But mostly, I’m excited.  I went to a meeting last week and we got to walk through another school’s fair and there are so many good looking books.  I love books.  I could spend so much money on books.  I’m a little worried that I wont be able to control myself  since I’ll be with all those books for six hours a day for two weeks.  We’ll see if there is any money left in the checking account when it’s over.

The theme for the book fair is “Book Fair Diner – All You Can Read!”  Kind of a 50’s diner type of thing.  Kind of cute, but most kids don’t know what a diner is anymore.  I’ve made a giant milkshake to track the number of books we sell, and I’m going to make some paper records (45s) this week.  Next week, I’ll be dressing up as Clifford the Big Red Dog (heaven help me) to promote the book fair.  Then on family night, the co-chair wants me to dress up in  a 50’s costume.  I have nothing for that, but if all else fails, I’ll tie a scarf around my ponytail and roll up my jeans.

Every Monday my house is a disaster.  Is it like that at other people’s house too?  Why is that?

We’re doing a RS birthday party in a couple weeks.  For some unknown reason I volunteered to do the centerpieces.  I’m not a decorator.  What was I thinking?  Any good ideas for me?  I’m thinking about cutting a square of birthday wrapping paper for the center of the table, putting a birthday gift bag on top and tying a couple balloons to it.  Sprinkling some confetti, maybe. That might be too messy.  What do you think?

My daughter brought home a hand me down tube top Saturday.  She couldn’t figure out why I said she has to wear a shirt under it.  It’s hard to teach modesty to 6-year-old girls.  Especially, when her friends are wearing something like that.

To reply in reverse, lol:

It's hard to teach modesty at all these days, especially since it's such a rare thing now.

Can't help you on deco, I stink at it. My house is a disaster on Monday too. I think because everyone is home all weekend. Today DH did dishes and laundry...I nearly died.

Dressing up 50's sounds really fun, Clifford not so much. LOL.

I love books and book fairs too and they always leave me broke!

Yay on the blooms...we're back to bitter cold here tomorrow, yuck.

Very cool on the Pinewood Derby! Great guy time for your hubby and son.

Glad you're feeling better and back in the bloggy saddle, I missed you! : )

Your centerpiece sounds like a great idea. Do it.

That derby care is cool!

Aah, spring is coming!!!

That's a heck of a book fair! Ours is only 2 days long. Good luck with the Clifford costume....you ABSOLUTELY MUST post a picture of that! :)

Monday is definitely a disaster around here.

I like your centerpiece idea.

Tube tops, eh? Sometimes I'm a little glad that I only have boys. ;)

Does Spring exist? I've heard of it; I vaguely remember seeing it once; I'm unconvinced it will ever arrive in Cache Valley, though.....

I hate the pinewood derby. Ours is tonight. We bought J off with $5 instead. He's more excited about getting a dinosaur than racing a car and I don't have to deal with the chaos.
