Books

I knew that if I was going to spend two weeks surrounded by books at the book fair, I would spend too much money.  I made a stack of books through out the week.  I thought about them, looked through them, putting some back and adding some more here and there.  Midway through the second week, I made my purchase.  I didn’t do too bad.  I got some good books and didn’t spend too much.

Until the next day.

I saw a couple books that I hadn’t seen before. And wouldn’t this one be perfect for Dad for Father’s Day?  And, wow! This one is a hardcover for only $5 – it would be the perfect book to read aloud to the kids.

So, I came home with more than I should have.

Here’s what I got:

Bear Feels Scared by Karma Wilson --- I absolutely love the Bear books by Karma Wilson. They are my favorite book to read aloud.  We have all of them.  This is the latest release (I assume) so I had to add it to my collection.

The Very Cranky Bear by Nick Bland --- This is such a cute story!  It wasn’t one that I would have picked up, but once it was shown to me I had to have it.  The story is so cute, and the illustrations are adorable.  I read it to my youngest and he laughed and laughed.

Pinkalicious by Victoria Kann & Elizabeth Kann --- My daughter got this book from the library a couple weeks ago.  It’s a cute story about a girl that turns pink because she eats too many pink cupcakes.  She would look at the book over and over and draw pictures to match the illustrations.  It’s a cute story about how too much of a good thing can be bad for you!

Sophie the Awesome by Lara Bergen --- A first chapter book for my daughter.  I haven’t read it yet, but I think it will be a good choice.  It’s about a girl who is one of a few Sophie’s in her class so she decides to call herself Sophie the Awesome as a way to set herself apart.

Princess Pink Rules the School by Alyssa Crowne --- Another chapter book for my daughter. She’s not interested in the Magic Tree House series yet, or the A-Z Mysteries that her older brother has so I thought she might like this one.  She’s ready for something more challenging than the picture books that fill the basket of books on her dresser.  It even has pink pages.

The Aurora County All Stars by Deborah Wiles --- This is the hardcover that I got for $5.  I think it will be a fun read-aloud for the kids.  It’s about kids that play baseball everyday.  No matter what.  It reminds me of a book that I read when I was kid, but I don’t know which book it is that I’m thinking of.

How To Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell --- I got this one so I can read it to the kids and then we can go see the movie.  I think it sounds like a cute story.  Has anyone read it?

Dog Whispered: The Rescue by Nicholas Edwards --- This is a book for kids probably older than mine, but I’d still like to read it to them.  We better go on a road trip so I have my children sitting still for all this reading that I’m planning on doing.  I chose this book because it’s about a little girl (who happens to be biracial, and adopted) that rescues a dog and forms a special bond.

My kids also love Karma Wilson's Bear books. They are great. I also like Deborah Willis' books.
Have fun reading them!

Oh! I forgot. Have you read Wilson's penguin books? Where is Home Little Pip and Don't be Afraid Little Pip. They are good too. Maybe not as good as the Bear books but still good. :-P

I haven't read her penguin books. I've read a couple of her others and I've really liked them. The other I've read are: "Sakes Alive, A Cattle Drive", "Hilda Must Be Dancing", "Whopper Cake" and "Animal Strike at the Zoo". I didn't know that she had written so many books. She has a huge variety and they are fun. :)
