I looked at the calendar today and realized that we have 6 weeks left until school starts. I’m not sure if we will survive for that long. The kids are at each others throats non-stop, and with vacation come and gone there isn’t anything to look forward to. Also, when we arrived back in Oregon I started to wonder if we took a wrong turn and ended up in Vegas. After all, we are in the pacific northwest. We are not supposed to have many days over 100, much less a week with temperatures reaching 108 more than one day in a row. All I know, is thank goodness for AC. I’m not sure how people with out AC are functioning. It’s too hot to sleep, since it doesn’t drop to the 70’s until 5 in the morning, and by 7:00, our AC is all ready running full steam ahead.

We arrived home to an invasion of fruit flies. In my quest to get rid of them the kitchen has been scrubbed top to bottom, all food is put away (bananas from the fridge are weird), and the dishes are going straight from table to dishwasher. My kitchen has never been so clean for so long. But I almost can’t handle being the kitchen because of the fruit flies and I’m starting to feel like little bugs are crawling on me. Ew.
Side note ~ Holly generously shared a link with me on how to get rid of them (and ants). Read it here. Thanks, Holly!

I realized yesterday that Portland to Coast is close. I have my assigned walks. I’m confident that I will be able to complete them but I am worried about the speed in which I will be able to do it. My first walk is 4.3 miles of uphill walking, and my second leg is 5.4 miles of downhill walking. I worry about my knees. I worry that my teammates will be annoyed with it taking me so long. I expect to do my first leg in 1.5 hours, and my second leg in 1.5-1.75 hours. Down hill should go faster than uphill. Right?

While I was on vacation I had an essay published at Mormon Women. You can read it here. It’s about prayer. And it tells a story from our recent camping trip.

Last year when it was time to register my kids for school I complained about the $15/student school supply fee that they charged. I thought that it was ridiculous to pay $30 for one all day student and one half day student for supplies. I know I wasn’t the only parent that felt that way. I did pay the fee, but others didn’t so this year we are responsible for the supplies. The list that was given us was long. This morning to get out of the house the kids and I went to Wal-Mart to get the things on the list.
I spent $37.31
And $7 of that was a lunch box for my daughter so I guess technically it was $30.31. About the same as what we paid last year, but a lot more fun.
Don’t you just love shopping for supplies? I do. I always have.

And now because I love sharing pictures:

that would be fine to link to my temple post on the mormon woman blog.
I just read your prayer essay. What a story you had to tell; what a great lesson you taught your daughter, and all of us who read. Thanks for uplifting my Sunday!
