In honor of my oldest’s eighth birthday today here are eight random facts about him:
- He loves to write. Unless it’s homework. He dreams of being an author, and he’s focused enough that someday it might happen. He writes stories and journals, and is currently into typing his stories in word. He is also fascinated with the idea that I like to write, and is always asking how my book is coming along.
- He tends to focus on one thing and one thing only. For awhile it was Thomas the Train, and later it was Legos. Now it’s sports. He loves to watch everything but the current favorite is basketball and the Portland Trailblazers. He checks out books about sports, writes stories of sports, and reads the newspaper studying statistics and schedules. He also loves to play basketball. And baseball. And football. And tetherball. And tennis. And soccer.
- He will be baptized next week. For a long time he said that he didn’t want to be baptized. He is more excited about it now, but I think he is really excited about Cub Scouts and the thought of bows and arrows and bb guns at day camp.
- Charts are a great motivator with this boy. If I can’t get him to do something that I want him to do, if I put up a chart, that usually does the trick.
- His favorite foods are chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese (not homemade) and Godfather’s pizza. And ice cream. And anything chocolate – I think he gets that from his grandma.
- He loves to read. Right now he is really into the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. He also loves the A-Z Mystery books by Ron Roy.
- His favorite movies are Star Wars.
- Right now he loves video games. He would play Wii all day if I let him, but I don’t. He likes the tanks game on Wii Play, and his NCAA football game, although that one is a challenge for him.
Happy birthday, bud! I love you to the stars and back.
Wish me luck getting through his party today. I’m gonna need it!
